Welcome! This is the first post for my new blog "Machine Learning and Data Mining in Research". As you have probably guessed from the blog title, we will be discussing supervised and unsupervised machine learning and data mining techniques from a clinical, translational, and pure research perspective. We will also review topics on data warehousing and decision support. Who knows, we might even get into ontologies and concept discovery. The overall goal of this blog is to provide pathways that will help transform data into actionable knowledge.
I have been in the high technology field for more than 30 years and have focused on various ways to extract knowledge from raw data for the last seventeen of those years. For the last nine years I have been working in the field of medical informatics, which is probably the most rewarding experience of my life. I have several patents and patents pending in this area, have authored a number of papers, and have even presented my work to the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). The fact is, I have a passion for this stuff!
So if you have a passion for machine learning and data mining, or want to learn more, or want to teach more, or just want to broaden your horizons, please follow me and join in the discussions. I'm sure we will have a great time!
